Could use some advice here...

As some of you may already know, Matt and I are expecting our first child in July. Yep, I'm preggers. I am currently in my fifteenth week (fourth month) of pregnancy and now that I'm feeling better I have a small request. My appetite has increased (exponentially) and I really would like to focus on eating foods that are healthy for both myself and our little tiny baby. Now, I must admit I find myself being the pickiest eater these days... and I'm driving Matt nuts! Nearly every meal we have together he asks, "What sounds good?" Poor guy... it's an endless battle for us to think of yummy, nutritious foods. I need your help! Matt needs your help! Do you have any suggestions for snacks or meals that are rich in nutrients, but low in fat? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Much love to you all, and I'll try to keep the updates coming!

  2. YAY!! So glad to comment on this post, Beth!! First, welcome to your second trimester...enjoy it! :)

Second, if you haven't found this out already, you're going to get a million people telling you what to do and not do--and here's mine: Do what YOU want. :) Now on to my solicited advice...

Food can be difficult. It's really difficult having that feeling that everything you put in your mouth goes directly to your little one. I couldn't help feeling guilty for missing a vitamin...but that feeling lessens.

Here's my food trick: eat lots of little snacks a day. I eat/snack about every two hours. It really does help with digestion--which slows down and then you're like, uh oh. (Been there, done that.) Matt is a sweetheart for asking you what sounds good. My tastes change everyday..sometimes mid meal!

I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegies. I eat a hard boiled egg a day (without the yolk because I think they're icky--plus the white part has all of the protein). Great (healthier) snacks that I enjoy are celery and peanut butter, tortilla chips and salsa, or pretezel sticks (they are healthier than my other favorite "Goldfish" crackers). Think about reverting back to your childhood snacks. I'm a sucker for chocolate, and although the preggo books say "no chocolate", I eat about a piece a day. Everything is within moderation.

Now that I've commented your ear off, please feel free to ask. :) I've found that support from friends who are going through or recently have gone through this experience has been such a blessing to me. :)

We'll be praying for your growing family! :)
